General Instructions
The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue requires that you file for an extension whether or not you owe additional taxes at this time. However, if you do not owe any additional taxes the state will accept the Federal extension in lieu of a Pennsylvania extension.
Pennsylvania automatically grants a six month extension of time to file until October 15, 2008. To avoid penalties, Pennsylvania requires that you pay your total tax liability with the filing of your return.
Penalty and Interest Charges on Tax Owed:
In all cases, interest will be charged from the date the tax should have been paid (April 15, 2008) until the date of payment. In addition, the state may assess the following penalties:
If You Owe...
If you owe additional Pennsylvania Income Taxes you may pay your estimated balance due in the following ways:
Pay with check or money order:Pennsylvania accepts payment by credit card over the phone or on the web at Department of Revenue e-Services Center.
On the Web:Make your payment at the Department of Revenue e-Services Center.
By Telephone:Use your touch-tone phone to call toll-free (800) 272-9829. At the end of your call you will be given a confirmation number. Write down and save this confirmation number for your records
If You Do Not Owe...
Pennsylvania requires that you request an extension even if you do not owe or are expecting a tax refund.
If you are filing a Federal ExtensionThere is nothing to be filed at this time. Be sure to attach a copy of your completed Federal Extension form to your Pennsylvania return when you file.
